Field Interviewers to work with University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee
Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking Field Interviewers on behalf of our client, University of Wisconsin in the Milwaukee WI area. As a Field Interviewer, you will conduct in person interviews supporting the MIDUS Study.
About the MIDUS Study
The first national survey of Midlife Development in the U.S. (MIDUS) was conducted in 1995/96 by the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Successful Midlife Development. The study was conceived by a multidisciplinary team of scholars from fields of psychology, sociology, epidemiology, demography, anthropology, medicine, and health care policy. Their collective aim was to investigate the role of behavioral, psychological, and social factors in accounting for age-related variations in health and well-being in a national sample of Americans.
In 2016, University of Wisconsin conducted the MIDUS Milwaukee African American Refresher oversample study and completed 389 CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing) interviews and achieved nearly an 80% response rate. This next in-person wave of the MIDUS study begins in spring of 2025 with respondents that were interviewed in 2016. This effort includes a 2.5 hour in-person interview, a 50-page questionnaire, and a 25-minute cognitive interview. Field Interviewers will travel to administer surveys to respondents in their homes. Study members are pre-selected and sent an advance letter with a $5 pre-incentive. In total, the respondents will receive $250 if they complete all phases of the study.
University of Wisconsin Field Interviewers will work an average of 15-25 hours per week. CAPI Interviews are 2 – 2.5 hours long and respondents will receive a cash incentive of $150 after completing the interview. The interview includes waist and hip measurements, so interviewers must be comfortable administering these anthropometric measures. Some of the questions may be considered of a sensitive nature, so interviewers must be comfortable asking questions of that type. For the most sensitive questions, the interviewer will be instructed to turn over the laptop to the respondent, with headphones, so that portion of the questionnaire can be self-administered by the respondent.
After the completion of the CAPI interview, the interviewer will give the respondent $150 cash. They will also leave a 50-page questionnaire with the respondent, who will receive another $50 after they mail the questionnaire in to our Survey Center headquarters. Finally, the respondent will be asked to complete a cognitive survey by telephone, and upon completion will receive an extra $50. In some cases, we will ask that interviewers return to the home of respondents who need assistance with the questionnaire/cognitive interview, or to follow-up with questionnaire/cognitive interview non-response cases to secure completes of these items.
It should be noted that these interviews will be taking place in respondent’s homes where we will not know the vaccination status of the individuals in the household, so candidates should be comfortable going into these types of situations. Additionally, some households will be in lower socioeconomic status neighborhoods, so interviewers should be comfortable traveling, going into homes, and working in these neighborhoods as well.
Paid in-person training will be held April 14-18 in Madison. Field Interviewers must be able to attend in person and will be offered hotel rooms to stay in Madison for this period. Interviewers must commit to work the project until the end of the field period, which will last from April 19th, 2025 – December 31st, 2025, though it is possible that the field period will bleed into the new year (January 2026).
